AmerenUE's Osage Plant Commemorates 2008 Industrial Safety Record

Apr. 7, 2009

UE’s Osage Power Plant (Bagnell Dam) commemorated its outstanding 2008 industrial safety record with a $1,000 donation to the American Heart Association in memory of deceased employee Kenneth Welch. Welch died of natural causes Sept. 1, 2008, following a 38-year career with UE that included 35 years at the Osage Plant.

“Osage Plant recognizes and rewards safe work performance, and in 2008 the plant had a perfect industrial safety record,” said Plant Superintendent Phil Thompson. “Ken Welch was a long-standing advocate for industrial safety and a member of the Plant Safety Steering Committee until the time of his death. He was a leader at work, in his local church and in his community. He is sorely missed by all who knew him. Therefore, in recognition of the plant’s outstanding 2008 safety record, we decided to make a charitable donation in Ken’s honor.”

Thompson and John Dussold, chief steward of International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 148, presented the donation to American Heart Association representative Becki Collier. Thompson and Dussold are current members of the plant’s safety committee, and Welch was chief steward of IUOE Local 148 at the time of his death
