Ameren Takes Storm Restoration Efforts on the Road

October 2, 2006

Two, new 53-foot trailers equipped with all the necessary storm restoration materials―from wire and hardware to cross arms and computers―are now available to help crews combat the severe storms that often sweep across Ameren’s Missouri and Illinois service areas each year.

The trailers will be easily visible—they have been covered with eye-popping graphics that depict Ameren crews at work, as well as an important message: “Help Is On the Way!”

In addition to materials, the new trailers are equipped with a generator that supplies electricity inside the trailer, outlets to charge cell phones and laptops, and an undercarriage to tote the large cross arms that often break and need to be replaced during storms.

The trailers will be housed in St. Louis, ready to be dispatched anywhere in Ameren’s service territory. They are essentially a big “insurance policy.” Ameren hopes they will never have to be pressed into service—but with the unpredictable Midwest weather, that’s not likely to be the case!

Specially trained employees will staff the trailers when they are dispatched. They will be responsible for distributing materials to restoration crews, ordering new materials from Stores and coordinating all material-related communications between the mobile storeroom and warehouses.  The mobile storerooms will also serve as a central command from which all of our crews will function.

One of the Ameren storm response trailers is exhibited at Ameren’s St. Louis general office building. The trailer is stocked and ready to be moved to a temporary command center location when needed.
